Belfast CR Programme experience of BACPR/NACR Certification
The BHSCT cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention
service has been successful in obtaining BACPR/NACR certification. The service provides
comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation to the population of greater Belfast. We
see about 1500 patients each year from many different clinical groups. Our aim
is to limit both the psychological and physiological effects of cardiac
disease. We are committed to addressing the needs of all service users and
carers. The service works within a multi-professional team approach. We are all
committed to providing a clinically effective cardiac rehabilitation service
that is evidenced based. The cardiac rehabilitation services are available in
different locations in hospital and community settings. The programmes are delivered
in the morning, afternoon and early evening. The cardiac rehabilitation service
is tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and provides a
comprehensive assessment followed by effective intervention which is then
audited and evaluated. Each patient is offered a choice of location and can
receive their cardiac rehabilitation as a group intervention, one to one
consultation or a combination of both. The BHSCT cardiac rehabilitation service applied for
BACPR/NACR certification back in October 2016. As a team we wanted our service
to be recognised for the high standard of service that is delivered to our
patients. The process was very straightforward. Completing the application
provided a very good opportunity to reflect on our many strengths but also
highlighted areas that as a team we were able to see needed improvement and or
development. The feedback from the
certification panel was very helpful and constructive. All in all the process
was painless and the reward was a great boost to our team morale. I would recommend that all cardiac rehabilitation services
strive to attain BACPR/NACR certification. It validates the high level of
expertise, ‘raises the bar’ for practice, continually improving and updating requirements
to meet the needs of cardiac patients and their families.
